Process of Coaching

The act of coaching a sport is quite straightforward.

  1. Present the plan.
  2. Time to practice.
  3. Feedback.
  4. Recognize.
  5. Repeat.

The act of instructional coaching (here’s a great book on the topic) is quite complex – or it can be. But does it have to be?

In addition to the act of coaching, what principles guide the process of coaching? A few possibilities could include:

  • Fixing.
  • Questioning.
  • Multifinality.
  • Simplicity.

In the guest interview of this week’s podcast episode, we heard that simplicity and multifinality really can produce great results in coaching. We also learned expert tips on how to make coaching conversations simple…and how not to “over plan” the conversation.
