It seems as if there are two sides of appreciation:
- Respect
- Empathy
A quick search in the dictionary and we find:
Appreciation
1. recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.
synonyms: valuing, respect, prizing, cherishing, treasuring, admiration, regard, esteem, high opinion
2. a full understanding of a situation.
“the bank’s lack of appreciation of their problems”
synonyms: acknowledgment, recognition, realization, knowledge;
While schools usually find teacher appreciation week to be a fun time for celebrating teachers, what would it do to a school culture if we made it a daily habit for team members and faculty to enact the two definitions above?
